I have a problem with not being satisfied. If I’m doing a project and I finish a step, I want to move on and on until the project is finished. Then when the project is finished, I’m thinking “What’s Next?”I want to learn to enjoy the journey. I am usually good at completing projects. However, I should take time out to be satisfied with where I am and what I have accomplished along the way.
The Israelites were like that in the time of Moses. They were enslaved and saw God working over and over, but they still doubted Him. They were grumbling and complaining instead of reflecting on all the miracles they had seen. Can you imagine… There were a million people at the river being chased by the enemy. They were probably scared to death wondering what they were going to do. Then, Moses lifted his rod and the river divided into two parts. They were able to walk through the riverbed on dry ground to the other side. Once they were safe, their enemies were all swallowed up by the river coming down on them. Their environment had changed after that and they had to walk in the desert, but I wonder what would have happened if they had spent more time praising God and not complaining about their circumstances. I’ll bet their journey in the wilderness would have been much shorter.
God shows us His path and we should strive for wanting more of Him rather than looking for the next thing to satisfy us. He brings us through the storms of life and leads us, but when we don’t take time to actually see what He is doing, we miss seeing His hand at work in our lives. Jesus wants to fulfill us and in His presence we can find our joy.
Psalm 16:11 You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at Your Right Hand.
Lord, Fill me with your joy as I take time to watch you at work. I don’t want to get ahead or behind, but want to be in the center of your will for me. I want to see the path you have for me and I will slow down to enjoy Your journey for me.
In Jesus mighty name, Amen
